Basketball is a team sport played by two teams, with five players from each team on the court at the same time. Each team tries to score points by putting the ball into the other team’s basket, while also defending their own basket to stop the other team from scoring.
The game is controlled and kept fair by officials.
Referees run the game on the court. They make decisions on rules, fouls, violations, and when play starts or stops.
Table officials manage things like the scoreboard, game clock, shot clock, fouls, and substitutions.
In some competitions, a commissioner may also be present. Their role is to oversee the game overall, support the officials, and help deal with any serious issues or disputes that may arise.
Together, these officials ensure the game is played safely, fairly, and according to the rules.`
